Antique Roller Shutters: Vienna

Vienna is chock-full of antique (late 19th and early 20th century) metal roller shutters. The most interesting to find were the shutters made by manufacturers who also made shutters for others cities in the Austrian Empire, in particular for Lviv and Rzeszów.

Joh. Schuberth Wien

Shutters by this company can be found in Lviv, examples of which can be seen here.

Joh. Anderle Wien

Shutters by this company can be found in Lviv, examples of which can be seen here.

Es. Rosenthal Erben Wien

Shutters by this company can be found in Lviv, examples of which can be seen here.

A. Woltär Wien

Shutters by this manufacture can also be found in Rzeszów. In Mukachevo there are old wooden shutters made by Woltär and Molnar, Wien. I think there’s a good chance it’s the same Woltär.

I found examples of old prewar/interwar shutters made by the Woltär company, as well as modern examples. The Alfred Woltar company was founded in 1908 and is still going strong.

Lion Heads

Various manufacturers used the lion head on their shutters, in the bottom corners. I’ve found examples of this in Lviv and in Berehovo. The first one here is made by the Ant. Beran company

Like in Lviv, the key plates with the manufacturer’s stamps have been removed from many of the old shutters, as seen here:
